Hot Air Brush? I can't blow dry!

Hi I have been thinking about getting a hot air brush for a while as I just cannot use a hair brush and hair dryer to do my thick frizzy long hair. If the hairdresser styles it they don't even need to use straighteners so I know it must be possible in theory!

Has anyone used a hot air brush on long hair? I can see tons of reviews for them used on bob type styles and getting great results but not many for longer styles. I dont particularly want curls (though Kate Middleton style would be nice) I just want a smooth sleek blow dry not a huge frizzy mess. Any time saved would be a bonus as currently i take about 30 minutes to dry my hair badly!!

goes in the Xmas sales. I currently dry my hair on a large barrel brush with some hear protector and mousse and spend a lot of time putting heat in to the brush so it smooths and volumises.

We have this one, if you have long hair, a spinning brush might be a bit of a faff ! Plus this one is cheaper.

I've read that they absolutely wreck your hair which makes sense because hair is particularly vulnerable to mechanical damage when wet. My mother uses one and is thinning on top but it might be a coincidence.

I have one of the babyliss big hair things and it is really good when I can be bothered to use it properly! It works best if you blow dry your hair so that it's 85-90% dry and then divide it into sections and use the big hair thing on it.

I'm always amazed that it doesn't get really tangled in my hair - but it doesn't! It's pretty easy to use and even if I don't have time to use it properly, it smoothes my hair out a bit when I just run it over my hair "en masse".
  • Another vote for Babyliss big hair, love it! It's like getting a salon blow dry. Second gwhizz blow dry hair then finish off with the big hair.

I have one of these, my hair is just past my shoulder blades in length, it does an amazing job but it takes ages!

    Ditto everything you've said.

Regarding the comments about taking ages - it shouldn't do, the key is to make sure you have part dried with a hairdryer first. Then it doesn't take much time at all.

And I should add, that I am the worst person in the world for doing anything with hair, it's not my thing at all and even I can manage it!
  • Thanks for the advice, I have taken the plunge and bought a treseme one from Argos and I'm really impressed. I part dried first with a hair dryer and my hair now looks really smooth without frizz rather than poofy...no need for straighteners. Definitely has sped up my hair washing routine!

    Yup, what she said ^

The trick is to blast dry your hair first, then section off & smooth with the Babyliss thing. I tend to do Middy waves as my hair is shoulder-blade length and wavy anyway, so that's the look I'm aiming for :o
  • ive got a babylis. love it.
