I have a 64-bit Windows 7 PC and I use VMware Player to allow me to have multiple self-contained virtualized installations of Windows (7, 8, XP, Server), Linux & other environments running on it.

The Windows 7 PC is the "host" and the other VM environments are "guests".

In general terms this works great, especially on a PC with a VT enabled CPU, but I have found that with one game (Myst) I can't get it to display large. VMware Tools provides drivers to optimize graphics, though I'm not sure about the fps capable for a shooter game.

I've only ever used Virtual PC for things like that & tbh i've never fully got to grips with it.

I always find that they run slow as anything too. My PC is 2 yrs old now but it's still not shabby:

    AMD Phenom II X6 1055T Processor 2.8GHz
    6.0GB RAM
The hard drives we just discussed
1.0GB Nvidia GeForce 460 GPU card
