we got our dd a cheap one for her birthday, as she usually steals my sony tablet. The one we bought was rubbish but this one looks ok from john lewis and is based at being used by kids.

We've bought our 2 girls (aged 3 & 7) a tablet each from Amazon-
THIS ONE
They arrived last week & we're really impressed with them, I've even written a reviewWe bought this tablet as a Christmas present for my youngest daughter & received it 12/10/12.
This is the upgrade version with dual core running android 4.1 Jellybean.
First impressions are excellent. The tablet feels sturdy & well built, the screen is crisp, bright & very receptive. It's wireless connectivity is very simple to set up & we've even managed to network it with our own computer so my daughter can watch her films.
So far it's handled everything that we've thrown at it- youtube & bbci play a dream with no lagging, as do games. The sound quality is good, not the loudest but a LOT better than what I expected it to be. We've done a basic test with the duel cameras & again the quality of the photos are better than I had expected.
All in all this tablet does an amazing job at everything we need it for and at a brilliant price."Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and it may be necessary from time to time to give a stupid or misinformed beholder a black eye."...Miss piggy0 -
My OH bought a cheap Archos just for travelling (as he wanted to keep his expensive stuff at home) and it's easy to use - he bought the 7" which is cheap in PC World at the moment.

I'm assuming the kids won't need too much memory???
Have you tried asking the question on the Techie Stuff board as well? They might be able to give more technical insight to go alongside the general stuff on here.

It really all boils down to how they will use a tablet - that will dictate the specification required - as will your budget

There is a huge thread on this already with lots of ideas0 -
Toys r us have a couple of good ones out at the minute. They're good because you can have a play with them in the shop before buying them elsewhere (cheaper!)
I've just bought my 6 year old the Elonex etouch. It's pretty basic but mine will just use it for games and taking pictures and videos.

My daughters got this one:- http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/archos-arnova-10b-g3-10-1-tablet-4-gb-12818435-pdt.html
We also bought the world accidental damage cover, I think it was £30 for 2 years cover. She dropped her tablet down the stairs a few weeks ago, and PC World swapped it for a new one, same day, no questions asked. The cover is still valid, and now covers the replacement tablet. It's well worth the extra money, especially if kids are using it.0 -
You can get a google nexus 7 for about £150. This is googles flagship android tablet, priced to be affordable to the mass market0
