Moving radiators after sanding floor

Options
Hello,

We are moving into our new house in 3 weeks time, to allow for some work to be done. We are planning on sanding the floor boards (and making good floor) right before we move in. However, at a later stage we would also like to replace and move to a different location in the room most of the radiators. If those radiators are moved after sanding (meaning floor boards will need to be lifted), will the floorboards be damaged and will we have to re-sand them again (given that we would not varnish nor fill the gaps prior to moving the radiators)?

Thank you

Not a proferssional in this but having done both sanding floorboards and lifting them then putting them back down....I might suggest thats its better to lift your boards first and do the radiator work, relay them and then sand....

  • LEJC thanks for your answer. Reading you, it seems that you did what we want to do first (as we would like to sand prior to moving in). Did you damage your floorboard by lifting them up after they had been prepared for sanding? I am afraid that if we re-nail some of them and ensure they are none lose, they might be more difficult to lift up at a future stage once we want to move rads.
    Thanks

We have sanded in our house and love the boards it turned out to be a reasonably easy job...so when we first tackled our new project renovating the current house we would sand again...however having to lift the boards to install central heating a few have been damaged on the way and our plans are probably going to change as a result.

Its more a case of once the boards were lifted it can become quite difficult to get them back in exactly as they were. some may also end up being cut..so in some ways it would seem logical to do your lifting of the boards and cutting to accomodate the new pipework for your radiators, putting them back before you sand....sanding allows a little levelling of the boards and you can sort out any minor differences in board levels.

A lot will depend on how many boards you need to lift in each room but personally I would have all the pipeworks done and leave the sanding till the end....your doubling your job if you make sure all your boards are level and fixed well and then allow someone to come along to pull them up to run new pipework for radiators
