TBH I know of no limit on the number of parties who can own a property.

If a mortgage is required, the number of applicants to the mortgage may be determined by the lender setting a limit.

Always worth thinking about what would happen in the future if one of the parties situation changed and they wanted to sell....

Three of us bought our house. No mortgage though. The two of us and our son.

Meant to say that most of the forms were only for two people and had to be amended slightly.

Only four people can be "legal owners", but you can have as many "beneficial owners" as you like - see here. (I couldn't find an official site, but Tessa Shepperson generally knows what she's talking about).

What about setting up a company to buy the house? That company could then have as many shareholders as you wanted.
Note: Unless otherwise stated, my property related posts refer to England & Wales. Please make sure you state if you are discussing Scotland or elsewhere as laws differ.

Then you'd be into an entirely separate area as far as getting a mortgage is concerned. May not be so easy.

As a retired conveyancing solicitor I believe the information given in the post to be useful assuming any properties concerned are in England/Wales but I accept no liability for it.

    What's the answer please? four?

  • 4, unless, as someone has pointed out, you own a company.
