Bedroom colour scheme help

We have recently bought our first property, cosmetically it needs some work to it but at the moment we are saving for our wedding.
So far in our dated green bathroom I have bought in a black colour scheme (Black sink accessories, towels, toilet brush holder, bath mat, etch etc) and i think it has really helped, looks great and not too much money spent.
Issue I am having is the bedroom. We have a small ish bedroom. The carped which we can't afford to change is a light blue (sort of dark eggshell blue) The curtains, again can't afford to change are cream, kind of goldy cream) walls are white.
I wondered any suggestions on what colour scheme I should go for. I am quite keen on getting a dramatic bedspread (getting this rather than duvet cover as we have plenty of duvet covers that don't match) and then getting cheap lamps, accessories like vases etc as I go along.
Thanks in advance.
