Help please with courier delivery

Hi, I'm really hoping someone can help me. I listed a baby bouncer / rocker with collection only, someone contacted me asking if I would post it and wanting to be accommodating, I agreed to do so.
I thought I'd got a quote from myhermes, but when I put the full dimensions in this evening, it said they couldn't take it. Having looked at a number of other delivery companies (from the postage guide sticky), it's coming out at around £30 delivery which is nuts - item is really not that heavy, nor particularly big. I've seen comparable items at less than a tenner delivery, so I'm really confused.
So grateful if anyone has any tips on who I can try, as it just doesn't seem right. Thanks in advance

how big is the box? Interparcel and Parceltogo and Parcelmonkey are ones ive usedMad Mum to 3 wonderful children, 2 foster kittens and 2 big fat cats that never made it to a new home!
Aiming to loose 56 pounds this year. Total to date 44.5 pounds 12.5 to go. Slimming World Rocks!0 -
Thanks, I did try parceltogo, although my one and only other experience with them was horrendous, and it was coming out at around £27 too. I will double check my measurements - it's more of a triangular shape than rectangular, so maybe if I tip it, I can measure a bit more fairly.
If I have to cancel the sale and obviously fully refund the buyer via paypal, am I in trouble legally? Clearly I can expect negative feedback which I will have to live with but can I be forced to spend that sort of money to send the thing?
Am so mad with myself for agreeing to send rather than local pick up only, have definitely learned a lesson here.
Thanks for looking0 -
paisley freight take things without the exact dimiensions , prob more than a tenner though0

If its a large item, upto 2.5m in length & 5m length and girth combined.
Parcelforce have a new Large service, its called Parcelforce 48Large
I don't know what the public prices are, although it cost us £15 inc VAT0 -
Thanks everyone for the help, I did try parcelforce and it was pretty reasonable and the buyer has agreed to pay the extra, although I'm waiting for the invoice to be settled. Just glad when it's finally done and dusted0

Most of us when asked to pay additional postage because the seller has not done their homework before listing would refuse to pay the extra and then give poor feedback and low stars.0 -
Is this an Ebay sale? If so you were lucky with your buyer's response.

This seller was just trying to be helpful, having already listed it as "collection only", and the buyer has been reasonable as a result.
Your response is a significant reason why when I state "collection only" I tell anyone who asks if I would be prepared to courier it that they are responsible for arranging and paying for the shipment themselves and if this is not good enough I tell them where to go.I don't want to achieve immortality through my work, I want to achieve it through not dying0 -
They seem to give more importance to dimensions, rather than weight.
Same happened to me, when i posted a lightweight pop up regatta tent. I tried putting the dimensions in slightly smaller - and it worked. So i cut just an inch of 2 sides and the price dropped to £7 form £30.
Was there any excess on yours that could have been removed?
Never give in and change from collection to postage - its an hassle.0 -

Its the other way round - the buyer was lucky with the sellers response.
Most sellers would have expected them to get off their butt and collect - as stated.0 -

Allowing users to send their own courier can be a real issue if item arrives damages, or gets lost. You as the seller are still liable to refund the amount in case of loss or to face a SNAD if item arrives damaged.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
