Honeywell room thermostat not working right

My Honeywell room thermostat seems to be doing its own thing. The temperature on the dispaly is reading 5 degrees when i know the room temp is considerably more than this, it doesn't change from 5 degrees at any time. The boiler also seems to click in and heat the room even when thermostat set to off so i am getting boiling hot radiators in the middle of the night.

Do you think i need a new thermostat? Also, is it common for thermostats to fail that are only 2 years old? Don't like the idea of having to replace it that often.

    Its a honeywell cm707.

The display went off completely a few weeks back so i changed the batteries and it seems to be since then i have had problems. I've read the manuel but doesn't tell me anything about resetting it or frost protection.

Where is the 'stat and where is the boiler?
The default frost setting is at 5C as above, if the stat thinks it's colder than that, which it apparently does, it will fire the boiler regardless of actual room temp.
I'd do a full factory reset on it to start with, I think it's done via the installer menu, from memory.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • The thermostat is in the hallway and the boiler in the kitchen, its a new build appartment (2 years old) and this is where they installed both.

I can't find how to restore it? It doesn't say anywhere how to reset it and i can't seem to find anything online.
  • are you sure you haven't pressed the off button ? this will put it into frost protection try pressing the man or auto button.

short video here runs through how to set all the times & temp.

  • Even when its on auto or manuel it still reads room temp at 5c. Im having to turn boiler on/off manuely so it doesn't keep kicking in as it thinks the room temp is 5c or below (it isn't).

Any ideas how to reset thermostat so it is reading room temp correctly?
Don't really fancy getting a plumber out :(
  • try taking the batteries back out & leave them out for 5 mins, put them back in, you have to set the day, month & time before it will work, the factory reset is done via the user setup but i can't find how you do that, if that doesn't work give honeywell tech a ring tomorrow 08457 678999

  • espresso yes i did see that but as there are alot of things in there that shouldn't be changed by the householder i didn't want to give that info of how to do it in the installer menu, but it does say you can do a factory reset in the user setup menu but unfortunately it doesn't tell you how to do it

  • are you just here to argue or give advice ??

i didn't say anywhere they have to get a plumber in, the installer menu is just that for use by an installer only there is a clue in the title, there are alot of things in there that if the OP accidently alters will stop their heating & poss hot water from working at all, what are easy for some aren't easy for others.

I want to thank you both for the advice and im sorry this thread has started an argument.

I did follow the instructions above for reset (thank you) but the room temp is still showing at 5 degrees.

I will try and ring honeywell tomorrow but i read online that the number is only for installers to ring. I guess i will have to get a plumber out, sounds like a fauly thermostat :(
