Ideas for cheap party nibbles

Options
Hi all,

We're have some people round for fireworks night so I'm going to provide some nibbles. The only cheap-ish thing I can think of is chips & dips. Does anyone have any more inspiring ideas?!?

I usually make a big pan of veg broth, some hot dog sausages 50p a tin at Morrisons at the the moment, fried onions and some cheap buns at this time of year finger buns are on offer. Everyone then just helps themselves

I have also sometimes done jacket potatoes and made bolognaise in the slow cooker or home made pizzas. Will be doing the broth this year as can make it on the Sunday and just reheat.

I find this is much cheaper than nibbles, I personally find the making nibbles expensive
  • Iceland might be somewhere to think about as thy do cheap platter packs eg Indian platter pack 60 pieces for £5 but they do other ones.
Buy a couple of 99p pizzas and cut them into small triangles.
Normally when we have bomb fire night we have a tradition of a giant pot of chilli bulked out with various veg and a giant basic curry and some jacket spuds this works out cheaper for us and I make them in the sc so I don't have to worry about them burning.

  • Go for the good old 70's style buffet foods, you know cheese and pineapple hedgehogs pennies to make, You dont need to go arty farty. Buy a bero book and have a good look, lots of cheap nibbles to make. You need to have nibbles that people can pop in and out whilst watching the fireworks and kid friendly nibbles as well.
Has anyone seen my last marble:A:A:A:A

not read the other threads but on bonfire night a big bowl of (mild) chili usually goes down well (lots of beans and pulses to make it cheaper! people help themselves, and I make it mild although I prefer much spicier) or pumpkin soup with chili to warm people through.

also french bread slice thinly, add a slice of tomato, melt mozzerella (or any cheese you have) over: I like to put a layer of pesto in and a basil leaf on top but if you don't have these things/won't use them in future, it just adds to the cost.
    :AA/give up smoking (done) :)
