Hello everyone. Welcome to the Weekly Spend Challenge. This challenge is open to anybody, no matter what financial place they are in.

On this thread please post an amount of money you wish to stay below within the week (Sunday to end of working day on Friday). This can be pennies or thousands it depends on the individual. Then next Saturday report back and pledge for the following week. The challenge runs from Sunday to Friday so we don't include Saturdays but feel free to change the rules to suit you and include Saturdays or start on a different day.

Feel free to update this thread with daily spends if that keeps you on track. We colour code the results as below:

Green - within budget
Red - overbudget
Purple - zero spend
Orange - made money over the week

This is a little bit of fun but for many it highlights the fact that maybe that magazine/chocolate bar isn't needed. Hopefully your spending habits can be changed forever.

Moozie was the founder of this challenge and here is a quote taken from her:

The challenge is about incidental spending and not for stuff that should be budgeted elsewhere such as bills, groceries, debt repayment etc but you decide what to include at the end - this is about changing your habits and improving your recording of your spends more than anything else. Have a great week everyone and keep it low!!! Moozie x"

Good Luck Everyone

  • Hi all,

Count me back in for this week - ill go for £20 please! I'm doing it slightly different now - I take my £50 out on a Friday and then after takeaway and weekend bits, whatever's left is to last...this week it's £20!
  • I've not been around much this week as our internet has been playing up, OH has played around and it seems to be working again.
Friday I took the children to the cinema, free tickets through an organisation we are involved with, as we sat down realised I'd forgotten the popcorn, BIL offered to by some for all of us :j

Saturday was OH's birthday, lots of friends dropped by to wish him well. Thankfully I had baked lots so we had a mountain of cake to share. One very generous friend bought 12 of us takeaway to celebrate OH'S birthday :D

    Last week was green

Next week I pledge to spend no more than £10
Fashion on a ration 2024 66/66 coupons remaining
80 coupons rolled over 0/80 coupons spent - using for secondhand purchases

BTW, this will be the first time I ever attempt this, so I'm starting on an amount I think is manageable!

    Hi all

This is my first week of the challenge.

I'm going to be brave and go for £20 as OH is paying for groceries this week

    I'm in again!

£30 for food, cat, spends and petrol. I should be able to drop it next week when i get the delivery of cat food from zooplus. The lovely lads and ladies on the pets and pets care board recommneded Bozita as Rupert is not getting on with the butchers.

Once I have it, I should be able to reduce the budget accordingly for a few weeks (barring any problems like 'Don't like it, Mum' )
    Emergency savings: 4600
    0% Credit card: 1965.00
  • Spent £4.04 on the first day which is okay.. I have set myself £5 per day limit at work for food/drink so it's a good start!
#1 Reducing my overdraft limit: £800 OD
    #2 Weekly Spend Challenge (28/10/12): £04.04/£55.00
