Kodak printer updates

I have a wifi Kodak C310 printer, and every few months I get an "install printer updates" command. There's an option to ignore and "not ask again" but I haven't dared in case the updates are important. So I let it run, which generally takes upwards of half an hour and seems very laborious, also the progress box blocks the visible screen with no "minimise" key so I have to drag the whole box out of the way, and drag it back to check where it's up to and if I need to press "next" at various stages.
Why does a printer need updates? Is it crucial to allow them to run, or can I just ignore in future? I never get this with my old HP printer that I've had for years.

If you choose ignore it should just pop the window up next time the printer is used.
If you choose never ask you could find the printer unwilling to do something in the future, though this is unlikely
You could use their live chat to ask what the better option is

Same here, more hassle than its worth. No wonder they went burst.0

If you do choose to accept the updates you could find your printer will not run compatible or refilled ink cartridges so you will stuck with originals. A lot of printer manufacturers are sending out firmware updates that detect non original chips and reject the cartridges. Our advice would be that unless you are happy to buy original cartridges don't accept any updates, if your printer works perfectly out of the box then why would you need them?I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0

Well, they didn't go bust because of their printers did they?
It is a pain, but I'd rather deal with a company that's still improving and investing in their products.
The last update on my Kodak hero 5.1 did appear to fix some issues I'd had with it locking up on occasions, so I always install them.
A wifi multifunction device is a complex thing nowadays, almost like your pc - do you just ignore Windows updates because imo, they really are a pain!0
