Duo heater - question re controls

Forgive me if this is a stupid question. Have just moved into a new flat with Dimplex Duo Heat. I have had storage heaters before but not Duo Heat ones. I found the on-line instructions which say "in order for the radiator to operate effectively BOTH electricity supplies must be left switched on at all times". So if I turn OFF the peak supply does that damage the system at all - I don't particularly want the extra as I find the retained heat more or less sufficient for my needs and tend to go to bed quite early anyway. So if I leave it off all the time I am not accidentally using peak rate. Have I understood it correctly?
