Day Trip Recommendations in UK

Is there a thread somewhere that we can leave recommendations for days out in the UK?
I find that the most interesting places to go are not always the best advertised, and so come across them by accident, and those sites that can afford adverts can be very expensive. I also find that tourist information centres can be very limited in what they offer as they are often geographically narrow e.g. they may well not carry information on things half an hour away simply because it is in a different county (very very annoying).
There's loads to see and do in the country (often quite cheaply), we just don't know about them!
Here are a few recommendations:
The Raptor Foundation, St. Ives, Cambridgeshire.
https://www.raptorfoundation.org.uk
Entry £4 adult, £2.50 children (which can be GiftAided as it is a breeding and rescue centre). A full day out with three bird shows featuring different owls, buzzards, hunting falcons etc in each show. Large aviary including a Harry Potter owl and bald eagles. Best for over 6-year-olds, as very youngsters don't have much to do. The Foundation also runs falconry days, twilight flights etc.
House of Marbles, Bovey Tracey, Devon.

This sounds like one just for the boys, but is a fascinating and FREE museum/interactive site with a fabulous multi-marble run the full width and height of the museum wall. Plenty for all the family.
Hunterian Gallery and Museum, University of Glasgow.
https://www.hunterian.gla.ac.uk
FREE entry to science and art complex. The collection began as a gift to the University by the fabulously wealthy Georgian royal physician William Hunter. It is within walking distance of the Kelvingrove Museum, also FREE. Probably best for over 6's.

www.ukattraction.com has a good overview of many attractions throughout the UK, a number of which are perhaps less well known.
Personally, I'm always on the look-out for attractions that suit young toddlers - soft play centres, working farms and the like, and they can be devilishly difficult to discover sometimes.
Any recommedations for those?
You are right about the TICs - they can be terrible sometimes, and often have literature displayed for attractions that aren't even on their patch. What's the sense in that!0 -
