  • Thanks for the suggestions, both! :) I will enquire with Natwest or just go to the post office...even £7.50 is reasonable given the interest over one year.

I doubt I'm on the electoral roll, since I cannot vote (not a citizen yet), but can check the CRA.

Ask them to certify several copies than, because you may need more in the near* future.

    * They'll date stamp them so may not be usable in the longer term.

Just thought I'd add my 2 cents...

I switched to FD at the end of August. I qualified for the incentive on 26/09 and I'm still waiting for the £100. They've said it could be another 28 days from today...but appreciate my patience ;)

Also ccbrowning, if you happen to be in London I'll certify the doc for you for a donation to charity :)

Apparently I have to provide a certified copy of my driver's license or passport - the fees are all over the place on this. Is this standard practice?

Will have to see if this is available on the cheap where I live.

Just call into a HSBC branch and get them to take a copy for you to send direct via internal mail.

Ah right, not being on the ER would explain why they want extra ID from you.

As an aside, you don't need to be a citizen to go on the ER - you can register if you are over 16 and either
    • a British or qualifying Commonwealth citizen. This means Commonwealth citizens who have leave to remain in the UK or do not require such leave; or
    • a citizen of the Republic of Ireland or other European Union (EU) member states.

Being on the ER doesn't automatically mean that you are allowed to vote.

  • I'm an American, so I'm out of luck. :) However, I'm married to a Brit and have been here for a long time. Next year I'll be applying for citizenship.

Not a huge hurdle, anyway, to get a copy of my passport.

only waive the £10 monthly fee for ONLY 6 MONTHS, hence charging you £60 till the end of the year.
You must be new here, read the T&Cs, if you have any other qualifying product from FD (savings account, credit card, etc) then the £10 fee is waived for as long as you have that product.

I will insist that they delete ALL information about me.

You can't insist. They must retain information about you for at least 6 years. The account will also appear on your credit report for the same amount of time.

I have been with FD for last 14 years. Very happy with them. Had a recommend a friend card so recommended my mother to open up the account for the £100 cashback + £50 for myself. My mother has a Halifax Current Account for long time now. She has no credit cards or any other credit facilities. Account opened, no question asked. She has received her FD card last week and letter asking to application for CC - they just required a signature. At the same time received a letter regarding my FD Gold card stating I have not used my card for the last 9 months and if not used within the next 2 months they will be closing it. :T FD Credit cards are good for new customers only - has a BT offer but existing long standing customers get nothing from them. I never had any 0% offers on my CC. I did not close the card down because it was opened long time ago and not showing CRA so not effecting available credit. I would have used their CC if they offered cashback cards.

In the terms and condition it says "Open a 1st Account then transfer your banking using our Easyswitch service (transferring at least two Direct Debits and/or standing orders) and salary/income of at least £1,500 per month" Switch has been requested during application and has received details of 3 direct debits due to be transferred over on 05/12. Will they require £1500 credited for Nov as the account been opened up this month or will that start from December?
