I have just downloaded the new free 2013 version of Avira.
Before download they recommended uninstalling Malwarebytes because of possible program conflicts. Does anyone know why? I use Avira as antivirus and the free version of Malwarebytes as antispyware!

In case anyone is interested I found the answer myself which involves setting exclusions in Avira as follows:
Open Avira and click on Local Protection on the left
Click on Realtime Protection
Click on Configuration on the upper right
Click the checkbox next to Expert mode on the upper left so that it is checked
Under Guard, click the + next to Scan to expand the list
Click on Exceptions
Under Processes to be omitted by the Guard click the ... button next to the blank white box
In the browse window that opens, navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
Double-click on mbam.exe then click the Add button
Repeat steps 7-9 for the following files:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
Click on Apply
Close Avira's window

The pro version of MBAM shouldn't conflict with Avira as it's designed not to, the free version definitely shouldn't.
Some AV companies are becoming too finicky when it comes to other software being installed alongside their own.0 -
I never had problems with avira and malwarebytes both installed on the pc at the same time. Its nice to see you got a solution OP.0

I have used them together for a couple of years and the only thing that I thought might have an effect was slow start up.
It was interesting the Malwarebytes Moderator quoted 'To make certain you don't suffer a performance hit on your system while running them together, I also recommend setting exclusions'0 -

totally agree....... most of it's either marketing hype or sheer bloody-mindedness......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0
