In terms of evidence, I would have thought photos of you together from the early days of your relationship, dated letters/e-mails etc showing that you have had a loving relationship over a period of time, cards you might have kept from anniversaries, from friends who might have sent you 'new home' cards as a couple etc. Just off the top of my head - no legal advice intended I promise!0

Wow - the things that happen when you start a post and then don't finish until the baby's back in bed! Clearly Softstuff and I are on the same page...0

I second The advice given..
The more proof you can provide the better.bills, mortgage, insurance. Joint gym memberships, family photos over a period of time e.g Easter, christmas's etc to show you do things together and with a wider group., copies of anything that shows you are a couple over the period of time .. I includes some pieces from each year e.g joint bank statement for one month from each of for 2000' 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 etc...
Don't forget any copies will need to be certified as being genuine copies .. I got my local police officer to do this.0 -
Hi we were in a similar situation however Im the aussie and we now live just outside of brisbane. Been back 3 months.
To start with just take the points they want you to address and make your own sub points and then start writing. It doesnt need to be war and peace and your Advisor who deals with your application will ask you for more information if they need it. Do not overload with photos they dont mean much to them. If you have things like wedding invites in both names, thank you cards, birthday cards from each other etc those help.
Good luck with the process and if you need any help when you arrive let me know. x0 -
You can also try britishexpats dot com where lots of people have good experience
I was given a work visa and my then boyfriend (now h) had to prove our relationship...we provided airmile statements as we were workinf,in diff countries, professional wedding photos from weddings we attended and postcards people had sent us jointly. That was enough but of course requirements change from time to time.
( we are in aus now but Melbourne)0 -
Hi Softstuff. It's really nice to hear from someone who has been through the same thing! We're starting to get a good idea of what we need to say/provide. I'm quite looking forward to going back through our history!
May I ask how long you've been living in Australia? How are you finding it?
I've been over for nearly 7 years now. It has pros and cons like anywhere you live, but we have a good life. It's taken a while to get used to a lot of things and settle, I think I really only settled well last year.
I'd say my top tips would be: get private medical insurance as soon as you can (private medical is among my favourite and most necessary things), don't bother bringing too much over (life here is so different that you need different things, fashion here is very different too) and don't get sucked into a job with silly hours (full time here can mean working 80 hours a week but being paid for 38). Other than that, relax and enjoy it!
PM me if you need any other info about aussie life, I tend not to come on this board muchSoftstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
