Found a bike...?!

Hello all...

I really have no idea which section to post this under so please let me know if you think it belongs elsewhere.

Anyway... I work at sea and am away for a couple of weeks at a time. My parents check on the house every day or so. My old man checked the house over today. Nothing wrong, not been broken in to etc, all is fine. The house is in a nice quiet area.

Anyway ... he asked when I took up cycling. I was confused as I havent. Anyway, turns out someone has gone through my back gate, which is quite big. Then through my garden, around some scaffolding and have left, according to my father, a 'rather nice red bike with suspension and everything' outside my back door. The garden is walled on all sides, only way in is the gate.

My question is, what do I do with it if it hasnt gone by the time I get home in a week? I dont want to just dump it as it isnt mine to dump. But I dont want it in my garden. If I put it in the garage I might get accused of stealing it. I am a bit stumped. Anyone had anything similar happen?

Hi check if the bike has any post codes stamped on its frame then phone or email your local police who may collect it or be able to trace its owner

Yeah, sounds like someone's nicked it and stashed it there. Give the police a none-emergency call.

Got your back yard secured in case they've been window shopping while they were in there.
Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

  • Thanks guys, I will take a look for stamps etc when I get back.

The house is a project with nothing inside at all other than dust and some plasterboard and mostly no windows either, it is boarded up but very secure. I will secure the gate when I am back too.

Years ago the local bullies nabbed a teenager's bike and put it in my aunt's garden. (We just found the bike). Took it to the police and they found its owner.
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.
