Scottish power have registered a default against me.
I've recently had a mortgage application turned down because there was a default on my credit report that I had no idea existed. I bought my report from callcredit and it was for an electric bill from an apartment I was renting in 2010.
I contacted scottish power and they had charged me up to June 2010 when I'd actually moved out 28th Feb 2010. For some reason or other my account wasn't closed with them, I have no idea why and I can't imagine I wouldn't have rang them to tell them I was moving out!
I now have a cheque from them because when I had the final bill it turns out I had overpaid but when I've spoken to them I've had different responses everytime and can't seem to speak to anyone who can discuss what happens with this default. I've emailed them and had the autoresponse saying I'd get a reply in 5 working days and 7 working days later I still have no reply.
Not sure where to go from here? I'm going to try ringing them again on Monday. What are my chances of getting the default taken off my credit file?
