money saving - or scrimping!

Just a few thoughts I've pondered over when reading through posts on this forum re holidays and travels....

every so often I find a thread in which someone wants advice for getting the absolute cheapest of something, such as accommodation, and really wants to pay peanuts for it. i then wonder if some people are just trying to penny pinch to the enth degree in order to say they have achieved maximum savings, and then miss the whole point about money with regards to spending or saving it.

my view is that money is a piece of paper or metal that is worthless until it is spent. at that point its value is made clear. i spend money but i never waste it, so money saving to me means getting exactly what i want and getting the absolute best value out of my money for it.

my late dad always told me that if you work hard, you can play hard, and it's a philosophy i have readily adopted! I love to go on holiday, and that is my luxury in life, but i'm far from rich and certainly not a regular jetsetter. i will never pay over the odds for anything to do with my trip, but won't compromise on a standard i want just to save a few quid. after all, you're on holiday!

for my next holiday 15 days parking at Purple Parking Heathrow is costing just £9.95 on top of my Tesco Clubcard deal vouchers, but the saving will go towards the cost of our beach house rental. my savings in one area help me increase standards elsewhere.

i know some people just can't afford more, but i would rather wait and save for one good trip than stay somewhere poor or dodgy and worry about every penny i will need to spend while away.

If you save on your holiday you can be smug about your deal, if you scrimp you could ruin it for the sake of a few extra quid.

as i said, just emptying my thoughts....

Blonde jokes are one-liners so men can remember them...;)
