Gas Oven and Grill

I have a built in gas oven and hob.

The machine is by Hygena and outside it's warranty period.

The oven part is working fine, but when I put the grill section ON, all I can hear is a clicking sound. However, when I open the door the noise stops and blue flames come out of the little holes at the top.As soon as I shut the door the noise starts again.

Does this mean that I am unable to grill anything, or am I missing something ?

Has anyone any idea how/if this could be fixed ?

I have a Moffat built-in gas oven and grill, they are in the same housing but separate with separate doors, if I turn the grill on then shut the door a safety system switches the grill off. This is to prevent you closing the grill door and forgetting about it. I would suggest that the gas is being stopped as a safety measure but the ignition is trying to relight it, and is succeeding because when you reopen the door it is lit. Or, maybe, the safety cutoff is not working correctly. Do you usually close the door when you are grilling? If so, why not try leaving the door open, which I think is probably the correct thing to do? Hope I've been a bit of help.
