Switch Electricity

How soon can you start a switching process?
I am on npower Sign Online 23 Electricity / Monthly Fixed Direct Debit and although I have only been on it for 6 months I think this stops on 6th November. I am thinking of fixing with EDF. With EDF saying they are putting up their prices in December can I still get EDF deal if I start switching now and can I dictate to EDF not to switch till 6th Nov so I dont have to pay the cancellation fee with npower.
I wish the electric companies would simplyfy things.
I am on oil so dual fuel is not an option.
Regards
John

  • Plenty of views but no answers. Never mind. I bit the bullet and went for a Scottish Power option. Initially I asked them to hold of switching so as not to incur charges but following Martins comment on The Andrew Marrs Show this morning that this could go by next week I have asked if this could be changed to immediately. Fingers crossed. Even paying the cancellation fee should still mean cheaper leccy.

It typically takes 4-6 weeks for any change of supplier to occur, so you won't incur any cancellation charges if your existing deal ends 06 Nov :)

Unfortunately, however, as you have not been on the tariff for 12 months, you will lose the £42 discount which probably attracted you to the tariff in the first place. :(
