Got A New LCD TV What Connections Do I Need?

Just bought a Samsung (LE40R73B)40inch LCd TV. It will be connected to my New Samsung Cable Box Virgin media), Panasonic DVD Recrder, and my Yamaha surround sound system.

For thime being I won't be subscribing to any subscription HD channels.

How do I connect the TV up to get the best possible picture? Is it same as before with Scart or is there a new cable I need.

Is the HDMI just for when subscribing to HD channel you get the benefit?

STB(Scart2)-DVD-Rec(Scart2)
DVDRec(Scart1)-TV (Scart2)

Don't bother with HDMI if you don't have the source programmes in HD

Is your Virgin box a + box with the ability to record to Hard Drive, I guess it is, if so I'll tell you how to connect it. You MUST connect with HDMI for the best picture, my Virgin+ box is connected that way, the picture quality knocks all others into a cocked hat.

Will a HDMI cable from Virign box to Tv make a lot of difference from a scart lead even though it's not for HD channels yet? (i.e just normal cable channels)

in theory yes - with scart you are converting a digital picture to analogue then the tv needs to convert it back to digital

with hdmi the signal will remain digital throughout the process and will get less interference etc...
