keeping pests off fruit trees,,

i have a young redcurrant tree and a young gooseberry tree, i had left them for dead last year but they suddenly have sprung to life :T
any advice on keeping birds (pigeons mainly) off them??
will some cd`s dangled around them be sufficiant?
any tips will be welcome.

plastic carrier bags tied round my things seem to work with any birds about. If you don't want to tie up a whole bag, cut it into strips instead

I don't find that the birds go for these in my garden but they love cherries and blueberries. Anyway you can get fine netting very cheap at poundstreatchers etc
