Who is supplying you with your broadband ?
If it was Aol you usually get a disk with the modem.

Have you got an existing PC or laptop connected via... Your broadband router?

If you are already connected by wireless on your existing device then you simply need to enter the wireless encryption key into the correct network (SSID) from those detected by your laptop's wireless card.

As long as the modem/router has been used before, just turn on your computer and look in the right hand side of the taskbar. There should be a small icon of what looks like two little monitor screens. If you hover your mouse pointer over this it should tell you that networks are available. Click this icon and a list of available networks should appear. Find yours, (usually the name of your router or ISP), click it and enter your security key if you have one, (if you don't I suggest you get one set up asap). You should be up and running.
  • See, this is the problem with this forum. Someone asks a question which clearly leads to more info needed but the poor OP gets numerous replies, all of which differ. Leave them alone and let them reply to the first response then we can take it from there. Bombarding them with replies is no help to them.

johnnyboyrebel. I'm sure we all apologise for making the effort. I hope the OP won't be as ungrateful for our ideas.

The replies don't really differ, they're just different ways of explaining the same procedure.

going by the op, I'd say all the replies are more technical than will be understood!
so it might be worth waiting for a reply

I'm with plusnet at the moment. Am grateful for all your replies, even if i don't understand some of them. I can get the gist of yours Flicks so will have a go tomorrow. Had my other computer for 8 years and the new ones seem so complicated, which was why i wouldn't get a new one till i had to. Doesn't help that i am over 70 and hate all this technical stuff, well i hate trying to install it anyway.
