Consumer Money Matters

Hi all
OH had a meeting with Consumer Money Matters about PPI reclaiming - and signed the forms. However the CMM rep has never contacted him again after an intial investigation showed the chances of a PPI claim were low. He continued investigating himself and dealt with the bank directly and now has a payout - which is great news. However he has never cancelled the ' lifetime' agreement with CMM.
So I am now really worried that despite him doing all the work CMM will claim a third.
Has anyone got any advice?
Thanks
MM

The claims co will take their cut I am afraid as your OH signed the contract with them.
    Well done on the win.
  • Daft question maybe but how will they know? Will the bank inform them?

They may do, if they've had a letter saying they represent you.

You are right to worry, I'm afraid. Your partner signed a legally binding contract with CMM in which he agreed that they should represent him in ALL PPI complaints. He cannot simply circumvent this contract by complaining to lenders himself.
    Expect a bill from CMM.

I'm afraid the Bank are legally bound to do so by this contract too.
  • Thanks all - despite the fact I am delighted he has had a win on loans dating back 14 years I am furious that he signed the contract and didn't tell me!
I assume I now need to make sure he cancels the contract immediately?

You'd better read the contract carefully to see what the terms of cancellation are.

  • I don't think he's got any more PPI to apply for so I'm not sure whether to leave well alone. But I don't want any association with us and them - luckily (or not) I had nothing to do with it so my PPI claiming can continue.
I don't want us to have to pay a fee but a lifetime contract feels just a bit like signing a deal with the devil!

I don't think cancellation is possible, they now represent your partner in every PPI complaint.
As you say, he doesn't have any PPI left to complain about, so it's hardly "lifetime".
It's a pity so many wait until they have already fallen into the CMC "trap" before seeking help here.

Of course casncellation is possible. And it is a condition of the Conduct of Authorised Persons Rules that a CMC provides written information as to how a client may cancel the contract before any contract is agreed.

That's cancellation BEFORE the 14 day period has passed, which does not apply to the OP of this thread.
So, as I said, cancellation is not possible.
