Iron blew the trip switch

Was doing some ironing, doesn't happen very often, switched the iron offfor a while, when I switched it on again it blew the trip switch, reset it and tried again same thing happened. Is it likely to be dead or could it be something simple?

Probably dead, but worth checking it is not in fact the wall socket (ie plug something else in to socket).

You can then check plug of iron and the cable for any wear. After that I would say it is goosed.

The socket is still working, looks like a new iron.

Try it on another ring main circuit in case it might be a circuit fault, however unlikely.
