Who is my gas supplier?

I recently had a gas meter installed by Scottish Power (gas supply was there, just unused so it was a new service for me)- who happened to be already supplying my electricity. I've had no bills yet and recently contacted SP about changing my electricity meter. During the conversation it cropped up that they could be offering me a dual fuel discount if I transferred my gas supply to them too. I was a bit taken aback - 'you already are supplying me with gas, you fitted the meter!' Well the helpful man checked all records and apparently no, they definitely do not have me as a gas customer!

So where do I go from here? I had all sorts of hassle trying to get the meter fitted in the first place but eventually they did but now I don't know who I should be paying to use the gas it delivers! I know I'll end up paying somewhere down the line and don't want to get a multi thousand pound bill!

If David can't help, or you don't wish to contact Scottish Power over this question, then if you phone 0870 608 1524 and provide your address and/or meter serial number the transporter should be able to confirm who the registered gas supplier is and provide their contact number. The meter serial number is usually located on a sticker attached to the meter and is useful in the event that there are several similar addresses and they are not clear which is the correct one.

If they cannot find any details it may be that your supply comes via an Independent Gas Transporter (IGT). To obtain information about Independent Gas Transporters you need to call Envoy on 0845 055 6199 or follow this link.

  • Thanks for the quick replies! It will be handy if Scottish power can sort something out too - I'll use that handy email David.
