Simple pleasures.....Now its a small trailer of stuff that goes to the beach with us :rotfl::rotfl:( still live by the sea - although a different coastline):rotfl:
And a bucket and spade and an inflatable beach ball, which kept you entertained for hours.
You didn't venture into the north sea, that often. :rotfl:Debt free - Is it a state of mind? a state of the Universe? or a state of the bank account?

I grew ten cherry tomato plants this year (Maskotka) and got loads off them and have still got several small tubs of pureed tomato in the freezer ready to be added to homemade spaghetti bolognese, mince or soup or whatever takes my fancy. I had to freeze them because I had so many I couldn`t eat them fast enough before they would have gone off otherwise.
Oh I certainly agree with you - home grown tomatoes smell absolutely gorgeous - you never get that smell from a supermarket one.
Now i am totally embarrassed. No, it wasn't a beefsteak tomato. :rotfl:It was, ( note the was,) a common old tomato which came from a cheap packet of seeds, i don't even think it gave a type.
You've got to remember we are talking about small time, novice gardening here, ( yes, i have reached this unsightly age, escaping the gardening bit.)
One tomato isn't even enough to garinish a salad? On the plus side, second tomato looks like a tad more sunbathing today? and hey presto. I think i left them on the patio too long. They've been out in the rain, all summer.Debt free - Is it a state of mind? a state of the Universe? or a state of the bank account?

. You didn't mention the sand in the sandwiches, maybe it was something just our family added :rotfl:
No. It was sand in the ice cream, when you eventually ventured along the prom. Promenading. Isn't that what they did in the olden days? :rotfl::rotfl:Do you remember when radishes had a bite to them, rather than the crunchy water that they are from the supermarket?Debt free - Is it a state of mind? a state of the Universe? or a state of the bank account?

Unsightly age? I don`t know how old you are Ani 26 but I am guessing 28 as you appear to have a new house and garden which I presume is your first and are just setting out in life but a bit low on income at the moment.
As for me I am rushing rather too quickly towards my 80th birthday next year - where does the time go when you are having fun? No sooner than I have got out of bed in the morning than it is time to get back in again!0 -

Not quite. Add some decades? I have a new house and garden at an unsightly age, after being homeless. :rotfl:

Ah well, no gardening done. I miss the gardening and my friends the plants. I now have two tomato sized peppers. I suppose that is an achievement?
Spend yesterday, 70p. Six bananas, ( not in bad condition,) for 10p, six eggs, ( also reasonably fresh,) for 10p, and a loaf of bread for 50p. At least the bread is my favourite, and is far better qualty than the supermarkets value range. I've been trying to keep off bread, but scrambled egg on toast for breakfast? Shame the bacon didn't coincide.
I made macaroni cheese with leeks, yesterday. Surprisingly complementary. I have the milk and leeks to use up before i make the pieless, cheese pie. I have lots of cheese and potatoes, and wil substitute the onions with leeks. Same difference?Debt free - Is it a state of mind? a state of the Universe? or a state of the bank account?

Two peppers, whatever size, is a creative achievement. You should be very proud.
A long story, but I get given rejected bananas, lots of them. Just as well I like them! All summer I have put the skins around plants and in the compost bin. Some of the plants were near death, most especially the bay tree. It is now green and verdant, complete with what might be berries! Use the whole banana!
You can also make leek/onion and potato omelette, with or without cheese. If you make double portions it works well as a sandwich filling, really it does!
Today the weather is appalling, I so wanted to get out in the garden, I suppose the benefit is that most of the leaves will be down so I won't have to have so many sessions clearing them...Total debt at October 2008: £67,213.30

So sorry to read you were once homeless Ani but guess you are on your way up now and enjoying your new house and garden. Did you know that Joe Vitale was once homeless and look at him now!!
Two peppers was certainly an achievement - for me ten plants equalled zero peppers but I am not going to dwell on that!0 -
Hello Ani, :hello:
I started weeding in my holiday-cottage garden the other day, before the Rain started (yes it deserves a capital R here!). Thought of you as the area of clean earth grew around me.
Not sure whether to plant broad beans or potatoes in the first terrace? (Broad bean seeds are already in trays, but I've had to order the seed potatoes).
The only veggie thing surviving from last year are five aubergine plants; they must be confused about the season as they're covered in flowers..?
No gardening today as everything is too wet!0 -
Lovely day here today - bright sunshine and crisp air. Would love to be outside but too busy insideBe the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi
