Hello Ani
Nice to see a new gardening diary starting up. May I join in? It sounds as if you are a bit of a hit and miss gardener like me - if it grows it grows and if it doesn`t - well it doesn`t.
I have been following MBE growing his own food which I like doing too. Not sure if it saves money with the price of compost, fertilizers and the seed etc but I just enjoy doing it.
Can`t find your previous diary but probably wouldn`t have time to read it anyway as I spend far too much time on the Internet as it is. What have you been doing? Do you grow fruit and veg or just flowers?
As you can probably guess by my user name I am not exactly a youngster and am battling sciatica and a form of vertigo to do what I can, but am lucky enough to have found myself a gardener to take on the difficult stuff, like mowing the lawn, which I can no longer do.0 -
Hi ani, thanks for this gardening diary. It has been good to see how your garden has helped you in the past, and the pics you posted above are all of favourites of mine. I seem to have gone the opposite way. I'm renting a house which incidentally has a huge garden and it's all too much for me - so much so that I find it too depressing to go out in it. A few weeks ago I said I would spend half an hour per day there, just tidying up a small corner. Have I done it? Of course not. I thought I would have moved by now, but that time looks further into the future so I will make myself be encouraged by what I read - and just do it. There - another lurker no longer silent!0

My Step dad is a keen birdwatcher, spends hours at various nature reserves and has a camera with a lens that's longer than I am tall! (Mind you at five foot 1 that's not difficult...)
Slightly off gardening topic I went for a walk along the River Trent yesterday and saw a black swan! First time I ever saw one, he was beautiful- got a couple of photos of him!
Hope you are having a good Sunday Ani.x0 -

Welcome. xx
I wouldn't worry too much about ploughing through my previous diary. The only thing it tells you, i guess, is how i " found " gardening.
I only moved in here early this year, and as someone had put alot of time and effort into this garden, it has been relatively easy to maintain / add to, otherwise i wouldn't have had a clue. The gardens are probably about the right size, in terms of being able to maintain, although i tend to spend a whole day in the garden, without realising it. I also have a raised patio, which the previous occupants built, which has made a good home for lots of tubs, and the infamous chocolate cosmos.
Unfortunately, there isn't much space for a vegetable patch, as such, and i couldn't afford grow bags, ( but that's another story,) but i did successfully plant some potatoes, ( i've planted my second lot, for easter.) Well, you never know.I've made the best, of all the free things i was given. I also managed to grow cucumbers, ( unfortunately, i think i need a greenhouse for these,) spring onions, lettuce, ( although the inevitable happened and the slimy critters got to them first,) chives, mint, tomaoes, peppers, and a lemon balm plant for making tea.
unfortunately, you can't eat the chocolate cosmos, and have to be content smelling them.
I have my name on the list at two allotment sites, but it's a very long wait.Debt free - Is it a state of mind? a state of the Universe? or a state of the bank account?
