My gardening diary, ( amongst other things)

Okay, maybe my other diary has come to a somewhat natural conclusion, although i doubt you could call it natural or a conclusion, and i am not going to post a link as you've either read it or you haven't, and you either want to read or you don't.

I have been vaguely, ( very vaguely,) thinking as my other diary is also coming to some sort of conclusion, should i close it? Should i continue? What do i call a new diary? Do i really want to? The truth is, probably not.

Incredibly, an unlikely someone, commented the other day, how all my " gardening stuff " was helping them, and it has indeed been my therapy? This has really touched me. I've also seen comments saying there are no gardening diaries, or gardening becomes too conventional? Well you know what i mean. Since much of my diary has become about gardening, anyway? I've never been conventional, so it's more sensual gardening, in whatever aspect you choose. It's definitely ad hoc gardening, as i've become an gardener, something i never had " time " to do, in my former life.:rotfl:

Of course, it's not a technical gardening diary, and it's all interlinked with the " everything else." But it's been my salvation?

I am ( was?) a totally novice gardener, so it is all trial and error, for me. Mostly, actually, been successful trials. :p

I won't go into all the " stuff ", because you either know or you don't. There may be some " stuff " as there is a mountain to climb? I also love mountaineering, which i'm unable to partake, at the moment. I'm a total outdoorsy person. Or was. That was the real me. I suppose the garden brings the outdoors to me in the only way possible, as it is at the moment.

I read on a blog, this week, that people may get to " know " you when you are ill, then no longer " like " that person once they change. Or maybe not like or despise that " ill " person. Odd isn't it. Food for thought.

Of course i am still in debt and ultimately my goal is to become debt free, but i am going to try not to spend too much time thinking or worrying about it. What will be, will be, and it's out of my control, for now.

I don't do lists, i don't do targets, plans, aims, goals, achievements, whatever. It's enough for me to live on daily basis, hourly basis, minute by minute, right now. I've always been a totally spontaneous person, ( some would say impulsive and stubborn,) and that will never change, because that will always be who i am. Which, i suppose, has to be said, is currently, errrm, well..

As such, this came straight into my head, totally spontaneously, no thinking about the title, no thinking about whether to continue. Maybe whatever will be, will be. We shall see.

If you would like to join in, please feel free, as i know my life has been intense, and there still will be times when it will be intense. But any gardening tips, photo's, whatever, will be welcomed and appreciated. Gardening doesn't have to be boring?

The more colour, the better.

This is a new diary, for me. Please don't spoil it.

It is my opinions, and if you don't like my opinions on gardening , and you don't wish to interact constructively, then simply don't read my diary, and don't " trap " someone who is vulnerable into saying things you don't like, so you can make them look whatever you want to look, for your and others amusement.

Perhaps you could post some pictures of your garden?

You have had the desired effect, and i am in tears, and this wasn't what this diary was meant to be about.

But, i get knocked down, but i get up again, you're never going to keep me down, as they say.

  • Hi Ani, I know it's easy for me to say but don't let anyone get you down they are not worth it. I think the idea of having a gardening diary is great, I haven't got a private garden at the moment :-( just a little patch in which the builders planted a couple of bushes but I'll read your gardening diary and get inspired!

I have got the canal only a few feet away from my house though... lovely walks and ducks, coots and swans, it's lovely to hear them outside my window at night!

Hope the rest of your Friday is ok, looking forward to seeing some pics of your garden! xx

It just makes me question if i am strong enough, as something like this can so easily reduce me to tears. :o

  • Ani, I feel that you are actually a very strong person.

I love the canal- Morrisons is 10 minutes walk up the canal and every year a pair of swans hatch a brood of cygnets- they had 6 this year. Getting big now and ready to fly the nest as it were and find their own territory.

I looked out my window the other morning to see a heron perched on the fence!
  • Long time lurker here. Some of the things you posted on your previous diary really made me think. I'm just sorry it is such a battle.

Anyway, for me having a garden is nice, having to do all the gardening is not! Last weekend I spent some considerable time sweeping up the leaves. Guess what I have to do again this weekend! And there are a lot more this time.

I will, if you don't mind, keep you company on this diary. I might even post a bit more as I couldn't think of anything helpful to say before.

    Greetings to you all. :hello:

Question - Why is there always a supermarket at the end of a canal?

    Answer - Narrowboats? :rotfl:

Well, the tomato is looking positively like a tomato, now. The question being - To eat or not to eat? :p

Leaves. Urgghh. I borrowed a rake from my neighbour, and the conversation went along the lines of, I AM NOT going to sweep away my leaves, until all the leaves have fallen. Pointless exercise. So what did i do? Swept the leaves, ( which took me an eternity in my state,) despite the fact i'm reasonably intelligent enough, to know better. Still. It all looks tidier for now. :o

Ahhhhh. The last time i saw herons was in the galapagos, sigh........

Despite me saying i don't make plans, i would like to become an anorak :rotfl: and go birdwatching in the spring, something i've never done before. I have some binoculars, i bought i cheap flask from a*i, this week, as mine is broken. Can't be too taxing, bird watching? I had tens of bird books when i was a child, but we never went bird watching to this fabulous place, i have in mind.

I could have spent hours watching the blue footed boobies..............

Mine is definitely an ad hoc, accidental type gardening, too. :rotfl:Just whatever takes my fancy. No measuring this or that out, or leaving so many inches between seeds, or doing this, or that. Maybe that's why it works? I've always believed that plants and animals have a sixth sense with a person, and you have a sixth sense with things, if that sounds right? It's all in the mind, or it's all natural, if that sounds right?

You are unlikely, for the time being at any rate, to see photis of my garden, as i need a new computer. :rotfl: I also need that computer course, to learn how to download photis, and technical stuff, like that. :o

For the time being,it will have to be " virtual photis," and i was going to post some " virtual " photis of my hardy fuschias.

I forgot, i also bought the last two trays of sweet william plants, the other day. I didn't have any sucess with the seeds, although aren't they biennial? or maybe the sc's ate them? I'm not sure which. :o ( For those who don't know, sc stands for slimy critters, of all varieties, in ani speak.)

The only only plants i brought with me from my former life, ( indeed, the only plants i had,) was a tray of sweet william plants. They were planted in a tub, at the previous residence, dug up and replanted here. I wish i'd left them in the trays. One? survived, ( so far,) and flowered. A purpley crimson, one.

Not sure, whether i should go for it, and plant these sweet williams? I think i will. It's been quite difficult to get hold of sw's, although there's been an abundance of the other things which look similar, ( which i also have.) The name escapes me, right now, but i prefer sweet williams. Oh, is it dianthus?

Still haven't managed to get hold of any lily of the valley, in any format. :(

Apart from some primroses, i haven't bought any spring plants, as the garden was chocker block, in spring. :) I guess i've almost travelled the seasons with it, and now know what to expect?

But don't they always say expect the unexpected?
