Switching away from E.ON

Just completed a trouble free switch from E.ON to EDF. However, despite my E.ON account being closed and the final bill calculated on 9th October, E.ON still haven't refunded me the £122 I was in credit. I've even received the £30 for switching via moneysupermarket.
Funny how these large companies feel they can hold on to our money, despite us needing it more than them. Perhaps it's E.ON's way of punishing me for leaving the fold:)

Have you contacted Eon about this?
    What have they said?

Yes I messaged them 6 days ago from my E.ON account on the website and got an automated reply saying I'd be answered within 5 days (they didn't).

I phoned them yesterday and was told that they had released the money on the 23rd. When i said I hadn't seen it in my account he said "it depends on how fast your bank is"(couldn't quite work that one out) I said "my bank uses faster payments what does your bank use?"

I presume it's now in the system but I'm not impressed by the time it takes unless it suits them.

I received my refund cheque 2 weeks after my final bill date which was 2 weeks after my final switch date.

I received my credit back 2 weeks after switching to EDF, but this can be delayed by small hiccups in the transfer.
However the adviser told you the credit had been requested to go to the bank on the 23rd. Which is two weeks after your switch date, seems reasonable to me :(

My view is that at the time of closing the account, they should settle up straight away using 'faster payments'.

When we owe them money, they certainly let you know pretty damn quickly and throughout the term, they usually make sure we're in credit and able to earn interest on that amount.

    Hi dprice1164

I'm sorry you've not received your refund yet.

When accounts close following a change of supplier, refunds are usually sent approx 2 weeks after the final bill is issued.

This is to allow time for any discrepancies in the data we receive electronically to be put right.

For instance, sometimes, the gaining supplier will send the losing supplier estimated meter readings with which to close the account. This can happen even when the customer has supplied actual readings.

Often, these estimates are replaced with actual readings a bit later causing the account to be re-billed and changing the amount of credit/debit due.

Not saying this happened here dprice1164, just an example of might happen and why refunds are delayed a couple of weeks.

Usually, where Direct Debits are left open, refunds will hit the account approx 5 working days after the refund is released.

Sorry also about not replying to your email sooner. I do know there's a backlog in that area at the moment.
