Vanquish Card

As much as it pains me to apply for one of these awful cards, when is the best time to apply for one of these, want to start rebuilding as soon as possible. I was discharged in September.

I think it took me a good couple of years to be accepted.
But that probably depends on lots of factors.
There is probably not much harm in trying now, then in 6 months etc etc.
I would expect it's unlikely you will get one now. Have you cleaned your credit file?

As much as I don't like having a Vanquis card, they have done their job for me. I now also have a Capital one classic, and a Barclaycard Initial.
I will probably close the Vanquis early next year, thanks but you have done your job for me now.

Thats great news lala, does that mean your credit files are cleaned up?

I was gonna wait til start of December to apply for one as well, I've never had a credit card in my life believe it or not! I have another 5 days to go to know whether all my creditors have updated my files with Noddle. I was thinking of sending for Experian & Equifax again at the end of the next month just to make sure everything is sorted before I pick up the phone to apply.

Why is Vanquis an awful card?

I applied immediately post discharge and got accepted straightaway on a £250 limit.(since increased every 6 months). I use it minimally and pay off in full each month just to build up a credit record again, although I don't know why because I can't envisage a time when I'll want credit again.(other than the vanquis!).
I haven't bothered cleaning up my credit file yet out of laziness and lack of motivation....I have checked it twice though and 90% is correct with nil balances and defaults back to the day of BR, but the two cards on RBS still show balances as at BR.
I'll get around to it one day but the shops don't stock round tuits any more.

That's not a problem though if paid off in full every month though which I always have so that should be ok for me.

I recently applied for a Vanquish card [as posted earlier this week] out of curiosity rather than necessity.

Did the dirty deed online, and was accepted toot sweet!

Am awaiting the arrival of the card..[didn't chose what colour tho'! Would that simple omission delay matters??]

My impression of financial sales events of late is that...probably due to the recession, the main targets seem to be the 'bumping-along-the-bottom' wage earners who struggle from one month to the next.....possibly a large minority?

Never seen so many ads for pee-day loans.....
No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......

I was discharged 4 months ago - i've done a clean up and applied yesterday. I've had a message to say someone will call me in the next 3 days to confirm - not sure if that means yes or no!

Another good idea for credit build up is a clothing catalogue - just purchase a pack of socks or something from Next - worth a try as it will open a credit account.
