Question for Plasterer
Comments
-
I was thinking of doing the same although it is a 5 day course. My thinking was similar to some of the replys, it takes a lot of practise to get profesional finish so that concerns me a little. The course I saw is £295, I am still debating whether to do it, I pick things up quite quick and would really like to have some other diy skills. The new house will have a utility room and garage I was thinking of practising in a bit more before doing the important bits. I like hard graft so that bit wont be a problem..think I will probably get some quotes first and balence it up after that.0

I'm pants at plastering areas. Patches yes but not a whole wall and certainly not a ceiling. Spread I use reckons its 4 - 5 years practice to achieve a professional level. Yes that's years.

In a word no.
I teach construction and my learners spend 2 days just getting the hang of using the float to take the plaster from the hawk and being able to spread it on the wall and not the floor!
Buy yourself some sand lime mix and have a couple of weeks practice on an old wall at home before you go, then when you get there you'll already have some skill and can concentrate on getting a decent finish to your work.
Sand lime can be re-used over and over so it wont cost very much.0 -
After the replies I am thinking I am probably best to save up a bit and get the professionals in.
It is pretty much what I expected. Thanks for the feedback.0 -
I was chatting to a time served experienced plasterer the other day. He says there is no money in it now. Much construction work is simply board work. They get cheap labour in to do the mass boarding and taping and then only employ the real craftsman plasterer to skim.
Thats why many modern houses are rubbish.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0
