i am totally with you on this one! im 26 (in a few days anyways!) and i have amassed my debt through getting married last year! it amounts to just over 6k, and if i didnt have my daughter and could work full time i would be able to clear the debts in no time, but as it is i have a 2 year old and can only work 2 jobs part time (one being a paper round, the other at a bingo hall working late nights!) I have a handle on my finances now so hopefully wont be too long till im debt free- being on this site has made me so motivated though im actually enjoyiny paying my debts! Now im debt free i want to be fat free too!0

You're doing so well to be clearing debts with a child to look after.. i dont think i could manage it! i only have myself (and OH) and virtually no outgoings but still end up feeling sorry for myself.
for example.. im going out tonight and have given myself £30 (tenner is taxi home unfortunately) and now feeling sorry for myself that i only have £20 for the rest of the week. Thats plenty! i dont have to buy food apart from lunch, or pay any bills.
I think i need a giant kick up the a$$!!0 -
Ingela - we are in a similar situation. I have similar sized debts and am 24yrs old with no kids of my own to finance. Its very hard to find the willpower to not spend money when all of our peers seem to be doing it!! I know that we are the ones in the right - thinking about things early in life and not letting things get too bad - but its not much conselation when im with friends who get £100 off the CC out of the cash machine and blow it all in a night!! And i'm there drinking coke and driving home :rolleyes:0

Yep i know exactly what you're saying! All my friends seem to be going travelling, or spending money like its water (one has even bought her own business!) and here i am, living with my boyfriend's parents to save money!
I'm also yorkshire btw, so even more similar!0 -
Hi Ingela, welcome to DFW! It's great that you are going to be tackling your debts. have a look at immoral_angel's debt diary - she is also 21 and doing a great job with her debts!
good luck with everything!!0 -
Hi Ingela welcome to DFW I'm new to this (only a month) but if you find half the support I have on here then you'll be DF very soon. Well done on tackling things now I wish I had instead of wasting my 20s (I'm 30 next summer) and have nothing to show for it.LBM 03/07 £44k:eek: DFD 31/12/17 :A 12/17 £2545.50

I'm new to this board too, and as you can see from my signature my debt isn't huge but of course to me it feels like it is! I'm 24, and since discovering this website have been shocked at my previous attitude to money - I never looked at my statements and never thought about the huge interest I was paying on my credit cards. Now I'm hoping to be debt free by this time next year (which the snowball website says I should be) but of course, am hoping to make that even sooner! Good luck Ingela, and everyone else on DFW - it's nice to have a forum that is so supportive, whatever your circumstances may be!0

I'm sure you'll be debt free in no doubt. I think that when you (not you personally) reach the LBM it's almost tangible your whole mind set shifts - mine did. Like you until last month I'd no idea how my statements looked or just how much interest costs!LBM 03/07 £44k:eek: DFD 31/12/17 :A 12/17 £2545.50

Hi Ingela
Another 24 year old here this time with a massive student loan to pay back. I wish I had known all the tricks back then I would have come away with half the debt. But at least we are learning quite early about the MSE ways!
I know what you mean about friends spending money, I study part time for my MA and finance a life in London from only part time wages, so I am always the threadbare friend. I have enjoyed the course so much but I wish I had a 'proper' job. It's not easy!
Best wishes with your 3.5k - why don't you post your soa and we can help you save?

Hi, my soa is as follows. There's very low outgoings as i live with my boyfriends parents and they pay for a lot.
Monthly Incomings:
My salary – 1,200
(Can only be approx as I work in a pub so its dependent on what shifts I work)
Total - £1,200
Monthly Outgoings:
Mortgage/Rent - £180
Council Tax - £0 (OH parents pay)
Gas - Ditto
Electric - Ditto
TV License - Ditto
Sky Freeview
Phone - £40.00
Food - £100 (OH’s parents feed me most days, this is mainly lunch)
Car Insurance - £0
Petrol - £40
Life Insurance £0
Computer: £16.75
Total: £376.75
Theres not really many places i can save! i'm not spending much on a regular basis, its mainly unexpected things that come up. For example, OH needs two new tyres for his car, and he cant afford them so it looks like i'll be paying and waiting for him to pay me back when he can.0
