When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important :money:

Morning  hurrah for Friday :j one more day of workdom then 2 whole days off :T am trying to convince oh we should have a weekend off and just lounge around and chill, eat yummy food and go out foraging - we have just been at it for the last month or more and I could do with a break! Anyway better not get too ahead of myself!

    Thanks DNM and morning all.

We had a fabulous night last night at the Opera in Glasgow. The whole evening was done MSE-style. Tickets bought with vouchers, cheap car parking planned through Parkopedia, interval soft drinks and choc bought at Sainsbury's beforehand for £1.50 and Pizzaland with one pizza shared between two and free salad.

For today, it's day two of a three-day weekend:

Should put air in tyres. Thanks DNM. They say you save fuel that way, and are safer, of course. Trouble is we live on a steep hill so all car stuff has to be done on the level for safety and accuracy.

Usual things: Read paper online, One Poll (£18/£40), Valued Opinions (£1.50/£10), check banking, checked Grass Roots for mystery shopping, watch wild birds for entertainment over breakfast and chat to pals overseas through Facebook. Done.

Finished eBaying everything after our year-long de-clutter. It's been a long slog but all those wee things we've sold have made a huge dent in our debt. In future I think I will look at selling more through Gumtree or Amazon. eBay's fees are crippling. Done.

Check for PayPal refund. Done. Still not been actioned.

Get partner to check there was nothing in her long-forgotten Quidco account.Done. £0!

Chase up Royal Mail who've started returning mail to sender saying we've gone away when we are still living here! Our street is due for demolition and we're one of the few still residing. Furious! Done by email at www.royalmail.com.

Going star-gazing for free tonight with a guy from the local observatory out in the hills at an event advertised on the national website: http://www.bbc.co.uk/thingstodo/
Taking coffee in a flask. They've got sports activities, arts and crafts, nature and all sorts on the site. Some events are free.

Joined Swagbucks.co.uk. In three hours I have earned and claimed my my first £5 Amazon voucher! Done.

Does anyone want a voucher for a free Special K Biscuit bar from Boots? My printer's on the blink just now so I can't print it in colour to use it. First person to PM me an external email address will have the voucher in their Inbox today. (11pm: still available.)

Hi- hope it's OK to just join in!!

This thread is such a good idea. I never really think about the little things I do on my DFW journey, but over time they really add up. I'm going to try and think of 5 things a day that are making a difference. I've got a day off from work today so going to tackle some of the bigger tasks, but sure they will be smaller than this most days.
    • Write/post letter to Halifax to see if I can claim back some bank charges.
    • Phone Orange to try and reduce my monthly bill- since Orange merged with another company the signal in my house has been AWFUL- going to see if I can make them feel a bit guilty and reduce my monthly tariff!!
    • Post Ebay items that finished on Tuesday.
    • Get up to date with surverys- haven't had time to check my emails properly for a few days, so they're starting to pile up.
    • Read through the Clickworker thread to see what it's all about- heard lots of people talking about it and want to see if it's something that I could earn a few pounds doing.

    Have a great day everyone!!

    Katie :)

You could try using ecal to work out whether it is worth you using eBay. My PC won't let me post the link but if you google 'ecal ebay uk fee calculator' you'll find it. It'll show you how much profit you would make or how much you should sell an item for to make a certain profit.

Ten years ago I made £750 just selling junk on eBay at £2-£3 profit a time. It took a month of my time but it paid for my house-move. Now the fees have gone up it's been less profitable de-cluttering the house, but overall I've cleared loads of my debt doing it.

You could try selling on Gumtree, that's free, but does mean people coming to your doorstep to view/collect. I've used it but you need to be prepared for folk to try to barter with you: www.gumtree.com

Or sell through Amazon. Fees are explained here. On the basic seller programme you pay only if the item sells, I believe: http://services.amazon.co.uk/services/sell-on-amazon/how-it-works.html?ld=AZUKSOAFooter

Or look at this list of other ways of selling online like http://www.craigslist.org/about/sites/#EU or http://uk.ebid.net/ (I've never tried these but I think they're free to use.)

I work in banking. Refunds to debit/credit cards typically take two to four days. The refund may be showing as 'pending' on the bank's computer but probably won't be processed into your account yet.

Refunds to account numbers can be done within two hours.

OnePoll.com sends you lots of surveys but don't pay out until you've earned £40.

Valuedopinions.co.uk send you less surveys but they're worth 50p to £1.50 each and you get a £10 gift voucher when you've earned £10.

    Or there's Swagbucks.co.uk
