Stiletto heel marks/indents on stairs

Got some open plan 1970s stairs that are in dire need of a spruce up, think the damage is down to stiletto heels leaving shallow indents in them. Think sanding them out is a no no due to depth, was thinking along the lines of staining them a deeper colour, but the indents are black (dirt/grease?) in colour and would we think remain visible even after staining them darker.
Any one got any ideas, tips? Please!!!!

I use a wood floor repair product

This is a trade product but I think Ronseal sell a similar retail version in B&Q.
Alternatively you could paint the stairs!0 -
or carpet the treadsI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
If you have the time try damping them every day for a week or so then using a hot iron to draw up the indents. It should get most of them up enough to allow light sanding.
Some furniture restorers do this and it does work but takes time.
Or sand them down flat and properly glue a thin layer of new timber 5-8mm to the surface and blend it in by sanding the nose to match.0
