Serious advice needed

I have recently split with my partner (not married) and we own a house with no mortgage. I want him to buy my half off me so I can get my own house but he is making things extremely difficult. I am currently living with my daughter & cannot afford to get my own place without my share of the house. I know he will make things even more difficult if I say i want to sell - besides, it could be years before it sells & I need a resolution quick.
Is there any company that would buy my share off me?
Any advice on this situation would be really appreciated.
If this is in the wrong forum then can you please direct me to where I might get better advice.

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to the Housing board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

Depends on how much each of you have put in as it is not always 50/50 especially if you are not married.
Can you not stay and pay him off?
I really think you need legal help because the list of questions we could ask is endless..It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -
You don't need a company. You need to apply to a court for an order for sale. People are not normally allowed to hold 'captive' other people's equity indefinitely. A good lawyer should sort this for you.
Good luck.0 -
No one, and no company, will buy half a house. Why would they? What can they do with it? Live there? With your ex......? Sell it on to someone else? Who also will not want to live with your ex?
* What does the initial agreement you drew up with your ex say would happen if one or other of you wanted to sell? (oops - you DID draw up an agreement.....?)
* Has you ex actually got the cash (or income for a mortgage) to afford to buy your half?
* Are you living there now? Is he?
* are you at all amicable? able to discuss options?0 -
Welcome!
You need legal advice, you may have to force a sale which is time consuming. Why were you the one to move out given you have a child? Are you aware you still have the right to access the property and could move back in if you wished? Are you checking each month that the mortgage is being paid or have you informed the lender of your current address? Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
you have a child?
The daughter is not necessarily a child? The OP could be a person of maturer years who has been taken in by an adult child with own home.
There is no mortgage on the property.
She'd probably be best advised to consult a solicitor about an order for sale.0 -

Hi kel5515 - sorry to hear about your circumstances. We'd urge you to contact your local bureau and arrange an appointment with one of the advisers for help on this. And, as it states on our Adviceguide website (Housing rights at the end of a relationship), you might want to get advice from a family law solicitor.“Official CAB Representative
I am an official representative of CAB. MSE has given permission for me to post in response to questions on the CAB Board. You can see my name on the companies with permission to post list. If you believe I’ve broken any rules please report my post to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com as usual"0
