Faulty meter

British gas confirmed that we probably had a faulty meter after we received a bill for nearly 700 for the last quarter last year the same quarter was under 250. I was told after supplying readings for 7 days that the meter An old dial type one had a slipping disc. That the meter would be replaced and new readings taken to get to an average daily figure. I assumed the bill would then be adjusted. I have now had a bill where they have allowed 19 days without charged based on their reading which had been taken wrongly anyway and which 2 days later I photographed showing a lower reading. They then went on to use an equation similar to A level maths standard to try to explain the rest. It seems we are still being charged for over 61 units a day opposed to the actual average of 23.88. They have now tried to explain it again but the fact is they are still trying to get nearly treble the amount due.
I have asked them to explain themselves and hope that then I can tackle them again.
I asked the chap who changed the meter how old it was he said 1984, I thought this was old but he then explained it was refurbished in 1984 but originally made in 1965. At just one year younger than me if I worked 24/7 I think I would have a slipped disc too.
Anyone else had similar problem? Any advice ?

If its roughly 3 times the amount it could be they are sill charging you for an imperial meter (cubic feet) rather than Metric (m3). Check you new meter does it have m3 written on it. Did your old one?0
