We are already saving £2 coins but the pot is sealed so we have no idea how many are in there.

    Thanks

  • Just a quick update, had our tesco vouchers so my wife doubled them up and got some new shoes so happy it didn't come out of the budget. Did have to spend some money on basic food like bread and medicine but had £1 voucher off so another save there. Managed to put another £2 something into the spare change jar.

Just got today's wage slip and earned another £130 extra, so putting it towards my wife's 30th present.

I've also just paid £9.62 to one of my debts which is the 1% challenge so trying to pay £9 off each time for £900. £9 for 1% doesn't seem to bad so hoping this week I can chuck some more money at it which is from amazon and PayPal so should be looking to have at least another 5% off the debt.

I wonder whether you have truly had your LBM, Andy. So much of your overtime money goes on presents! That £130 would make a lovely little dent in a credit card ;)

The Tesco vouchers are brilliant, we managed to replace our broken home phone for free using them! Plan to save all our Tesco point up until the next voucher exchange thing now! :)

OOOOh Ebee - I have to agree with Ladybird - £130 TOWARDS the present - you mean there is more??

As lovely as it is buying presents if you really and truly want to get your debts down forget expensive presents for now. Me and OH dont buy presents any more - just a token gift coming in at less than £5 or even free. How much is £130 as a percentage of your debt??. Just a thought/observation not a criticism and keep up the good work otherwise:)

£130 for a 30th bday present is more than enough I think.

Thanks for the comments. I have £230 towards my wife's 30th present and that includes a meal out which we do every year. I agree that it could go on debts and we could probably throw every little penny towards our debts but this will make us very unhappy and will probably cause problems. Since starting a few weeks ago we have already put £50 toward the debts extra.

I have an uncle who never used to spend but now lives on his own as his wife left him for being tight. So we are happy to do it like this, the overtime has paid for all the presents so we are still on track on with our budget.

  • Is that meal just for you and your wife???????

Seems rather expensive as you can still go out for a nice meal + drinks + cinema for £120. £50 on a gift and youve still got £50 to throw onto your debt. If your paying 30% ish interest then thats another £15 in interest youve NOT paid and could go towards christmas? You can still go out and do nice things and eat nice food without it costing £230. Ive spent less on a weeks holiday and had a marvelous time!!!!!!

Maybe so for a more romantic rather than expensive theme?

Thanks for the comment specialkaye. Christmas has already been covered this year and with us not using any credit cards, my overtime has really helped, for the 1st time ever we have paid cash.

Our plan is April 2015 which all but one debt will be gone so instead of throwing everything at the debts and maybe shortening the debt by 1 month, but doing this would leave us without any money and scrimping by. We have come to terms with this date and know that we can still beat it.

The birthday meal is for just the 2 of us which we will be going to either Jaime's or Bistro Pierre. I know they are expensive but last time I took her to Nando's for here birthday she nearly killed me.

    ---

I also received a check from Amazon today for £15.95 so will be using that towards my PAD challenge.

Since starting MSE we have managed to throw £70 towards the debts in just under 1 month.

    Thanks
