Just spent the past hour on the phone trying to find out my why I'm paying £14.94 every month for some sort of insurance. It was critical illness and life insurance so I have managed to cancel it.

Did you not ask of this and what is it connected to? If you didnt know about it then claim it all back.............

Ecoverbee - I discovered today that my local Natwest has a coin paying-in machine; you just tip it all in having inserted your card and it gets credited to your account. You don't need to bag it up or have certain rounded amounts. If your bank does similar, you might find it helpful.

Give it a go.....have a look at the small print was it ever going to pay out if you fell ill? Did you ask for it or where you told it was necessary/a good thing to have. Does your employer have a reasonable sick leave policy. We had a critical illness insurance which should never have been sold to us on the grounds we both had good sick leave/ unemployment through illness arrangements with our employers. We claimed it all back with interest

Thanks for the comments will look into it.

Work didn't pay me for a few hours overtime this week so will be getting it next week so only earned £10.50 extra, massive drop from the £100 been getting the last few weeks.

Also since my credit card min payment dropped I decided to pay the extra off the card today so it means around £29 extra towards my card today and I will still be paying the min payment when due.

Do you think this is OK to do or would keeping the old amount and just making the payment as normal? The debts still being snowballed so the amount is still being paid as normal.

    thanks
    Andy

  • The drop in wages will be a test to see how well you can do just on your guaranteed income. And I have every confidence that youll be fine.

Did you mean was it okay to reduce the DD on the credit card to the minimum payment? Id say so as the snowball calculator takes the reducing interest into account when calculating your debt free date. It would be interesting to see if your overpayments have brought that date forward at all.

  • Basically this month the min payment went from £206 to £176. I will be updating my total debt at the end of the month, I will also be very interested in how it does.

  • Quick update, we have now managed to add another £50 to the debt snowball each month so all debts will be finished December 2015.

Did spend a little this weekend as my wife wanted a Christmas tree so after 4 years I have finally given in. We did get it for a knock down price of £18.50 which is a 6ft black tree. My wife has now stopped getting her eyelashes done every month so saving £25 there but will be used for her to join a gym which will be around £15 per month.

    Thanks

  • Gym at £15 a month sounds like a bargain. Just make sure it gets used!!

I reckon that that date will come falling down as things come up for renewal :)

Noticed you live in nottingham- have you subscribed to the free cinema tickets thread on here? preview tickets come up quite a bit for nottingham. I only mention it because ive got some for tonight, had 4 lots of tickets since i joined up here and each film has been really good but wouldnt have gone to see it if it hadnt have been free.

  • Thanks for the advice on the cinema tickets, we had some free ones a while back but the films are not really good and there is temptation to buy sweets and drinks. We are using Netflix and loving it so far.

Just had statements due with Very and Next and Very we don't owe anything as we have £860 left on buy now pay later (balance due March 2013) however Next is asking for another £9 which is OK since I just added it from the very min payment.

Just changed it to reflect the snowball spreadsheet and it means that Next will be paid off 2 months earlier than expected. This will probably change again in March but should leave the Next account way under £200 to clear off.

So its looking good so far

    Thanks
