Payment to barclaycard

25 October I made a payment to my barclaycard from my Barclays account using my Barclays debit card.I use the payment option on the barclaycard site and gave done do many times with success.
This payment transaction failed ( I can't remember the message) and I was not given a transaction reference number.
I returned to the payment options again and on the second attempt the transaction was successful and I had a reference number.
I checked my bank account today and the payment has gone through twice, resulting in an overdraft of £328.00 approx.
I checked my barclaycard statement and there is only one amount credited and no further items pending.
Barclaycard are unable to help as my husband is the main account holder and will not take any instruction from me unless there is a power of attorney in place.
Barclays are unwilling to look at any transactions and say that I must wait for 15 days for the money to be returned as per terms and conditions.
My husband can ring up and ask if they would please refund it, but it doesn't appear to have reached barclaycard. However thus cannot be done until tomorrow as he is working.
My concern is being charged as well as the double payment.
I strongly voiced my concerns and was told that it was no ones fault but a system error and that if I am charged to take it up with barclaycard.
Sorry to moan but I feel quite helpless. I know it will get solved eventually but it will entail more phone calls costing more ( on the phone for over an hour today!!!!!).
Right rant over now..... I think.......

    Hi,
Sorry to hear whats happened. What has most likely happened. Unless the first transaction has actually debited. The funds are probably just under hold and won't actually debiting. Depending on your bank it may take up to 10 days for it disappear (Santander is about 4 days).
  • No both transactions have definetly gone through and now my account is overdrawn.
The customer services officer has said that they authorised the transaction before the "system failure" even though I didnt get a transaction reference for the first payment.
