Took out life insurance policy, now it's MMP?

Hi,

Hope i'm posting on the right thread would be very glad of some advice please.

I contacted Aviva in October 2007 with regards to taking out life insurance. They contacted my doctor to look at medical records. I took out life insurance with them in November 2007 and have been paying a monthly premium since then.

Yesterday i received a letter from a company i previously had a mortgage with showing details about my mortgage payment protection annual statement. This has come as a surprise has i haven't taken out MPP. The monthly premium is the same. I rang Aviva and they confirmed it is MPPI policy started in November 2007?

I've paid over £1800 for a policy i knew nothing about and my life wasn't insured. Am trying to find any life insurance documents relating to this, so far have found an illustration for the life insurance plan from NU prepared on 25/10/2007. Can anybody please advise me on what to do, who to contact about this? Thanks in advance

contact aviva again and ask them why it isn't a life insurance policy because that's what you thought you were getting, and ask for a refund of premiums being as you weren't paying for a product you actually needed.

  • Hi, thanks for that. I did query with the person from Aviva that this is a life insurance policy, he said no, it's MPPI policy taken out in November 2007 and have i got the policies confused? Which i haven't. He said he would cancel the policy.

Who set these up for you? the broker/adviser is responsible. However, if you bought online/direct then you are responsible.

A 2007 case would have a statement of demands and needs issued. So, there should be a good audit trail on the case.

  • Hi, I contacted Norwich Union to ask about life insurance. It all went through and i thought i was insured. The mortgage with Coventry that the MPPI relates to was settled in May 2007 but according to the person i spoke to from Aviva i took out the MPPI policy in November 2007, the exact time i took out the Life Insurance Plan. Any help appreciated!

The MPPI application and the life assurance application are very different as are the policy documents and illustration. So, what does it say in your policy document/schedule?
