"Electrisave" anyone used/got one
Options
Hi all, anyone used or got one of those "Electrisave" units that monitors your usage of electricity? (http://www.electrisave.co.uk/)
They are on offer from British Gas at the moment for £60, I was wondering if any of you used one and did it help you save electricity. It looks a great idea in principle.
Cheers

It doesn't save you any money at all!
It is far less use than a power measuring device that can be obtained for £7 or so.
The problem is that it only measures instantaneous consumption. So is no use for anything with a thermostat. So it cannot tell you the consumption of your Fridge, freezer, washing machine, dryer, dishwasher, cooker, iron, most heaters, immersion heater, etc etc.
To give one example your Freezer compressor will use, say, 500W(0.5kW) but it will only use this for a small time each day, the rest of the time it uses nothing. With the Electrisave you have absolutely no idea what it uses - it will show 0.5kW or nothing. Plug your fridge in via a £7 device and leave it plugged in and it will show the exact consumption over a period of time.
Sure the electricsave can tell you that a 60 watt bulb is using(would you believe) 60 watts.
IMO it is waste of money!0 -
Electrisave went out of business some time ago, when the manufacturer changed agent, its now know as the Owl.
It won't save you any money itself, the idea is that you can see what you are using at a glance.
Its up to you to turn stuff off. That gum you like is coming back in style.0
