How to fix curtain poles to UPVC Bay Window?

I have a square shaped UPVC Bay window in my front room, of which all of the surface appears to be UPVC - ie there is no wall or ceiling into which I can screw fixings for a curtain pole.

Currently there is a pelmet fitted about 1 foot in from the window, so the curtains currently close in front of the bay.

I'd prefer to have a curtain pole or track that goes right around the bay so that I can use the space better. Is there a neat way of fixing this to the UPVC? I read on another site that I gould glue a 2 x 1 wooden batten to the UPVC frame (not the actual window frame but the UPVC panel above it) and then drill the rail fixings into the wooden batten. I don't know if this would look very good even if it worked though.

I can't seem to find examples of anyone who has done this previously!

I'd be very grateful for any advice!! :T

Thanks very much

Annie

when I used to fit curtains and blinds i was struck with problem many a time.....for the most of it you have to consider this.....when you eventually move out of the house would you take down the curtain rail which is what you will more than likely have to use...they dont cost too much to leave for someone else to use.....

    window or bay ceiling?

most pvc windows have a an alu insert which means you will get a better fixing..putting a fixing into the pvc roof part could be dodgy as the usual reason for putting these up is to hide damage at point of window installation( I used to fit doors, windows and conservatories as well)....anything i've then feel free to ask

for this too work the curtains would have too be VERY lightweight...also if it did work you could have a piece of 1"x1" running the length of the track set in front of curtains and rail to affix a pelmet made from the same cloth as the curtain or to your own design:cool:

Hello thanks for the help so far.

I'm afraid I'm not sure I quite understand - I want to fix the curtain pole to the wall, not the ceiling. But there is no brick work, just the PVC part above the window frame. I'm not worriesd about taking this down when/if I move - a permanent fixture is fine.

    Hope someone can help!

    Thanks again

We have just moved into a house with UPVC windows and the people before us did just what you said, fix a length of batten to it and hang the curtains from that, but as said before they have to be fairly lightweight curtains.
  • Funny this question has been brought up as I have exactly the same problems! If anyone is interested in buying Metal or Wooden Curtain Poles, I've just been on this decent site called https://www.thepolehouse.com. Seems quite cheap and I picked up what I wanted quickly. Hope it helps.
