Govt bloke recommends use fake DOB

Options
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-20082493

About time some Govt official actually gave good advice. But now there are tw@ts kicking off saying it will increase fraud!? Morons! I never ever use my real DOB, name, etc when registering on sites, don't use facebook or the like - As someone who is in charge of the IT infrastructure of a company hosting Govt programs I know how easy it is to obtain personal data. I don't trust anyone to be secure. Social hacking is way too easy as it is.

Helen Goodman is a clueless idiot imo. Anyone else agree or are you happy to post on facebook when your house is empty and details of your PIN?

MP's aren't exactly shining lights themselves when it comes to honesty now, are they? :rotfl:

I have to say I agree with you, I'm not sure why she feels better qualified to give advice on security than people who have been hired specifically for that purpose. This is an occasion where MPs would do better to keep their mouths firmly shut rather than trying to insert a large foot into them.

    I agree.

In the past I have used a false mothers maiden name as this indformation is so easy to identify by other means.

The only problem is remembering which name you have used and which websites you have use it on!
  • The thing I always fail on is "what is your fathers christian name" . Me mam said when I asked what my dad's name was she said , well it was either "Yes, Yes, Yes", or "No, No, No" or "Oh God,Oh God,Oh God"

There was a fad a couple of years ago which was appearing on many internet sites and it was along the lines of asking people what their pornstar name would be. (this is made up of the name of your first pet followed by your mother's maiden name).
It was amazing how many people were happy to put this info on websites such as facebook where they could easily be identified.

(I am Floppy O'Connor by the way).

This is one of the good bits of advice given by the government albiet years too late.

How many of us actually use our real names, real DOB and real locations on social networking sites? Not many I hope.

Its only the stupid ones (like my own daughter) who put their DOB, school etc on the sites and no matter how many times we tell them they think its OK.
