Debit cards withdrawn

Options
Hi, I had unauthorised overdraft charges with HSBC from May this year totalling £400 on two accounts. I had asked them if I could set up repayment plans etc but they were anything but helpful. As a result I moved all my incomings and outgoings to a basic bank account and just paid in what I could when i could.

I phoned them three weeks ago to say that we are finally able to settle the amount and they said thank you, once the account is in credit we can carry on as before.

So this week I paid in £300 to clear both overdrawn balances and rearraranged for my tax credits etc to be paid into this account once again as although we were getting along ok with the basic account it is a pain having to load the pre paid card before you buy anything and having to pay to draw money out etc.

I just tried to use a debit card from one of the hsbc accounts and it was refused so I phoned them and they have withdrawn all of our cards and apparantly we can't reapply to have another card for 6 months. We cant even have a basic cash card - this is ridiculous. If I change my tax credits again it will be the third time this year and apparantly I have to put it all in writing as to why i keep changing accounts .... so I now have to go online transfer money from hsbc to secure trust then transfer it from secure trust bank to card - I am a tad peeved.

Anyway the reason for my rant is the question surely if they are allowing me to have a bank account at hsbc are they legally allowed to not give me a card so I can access my money?

As lots of accounts didn't or don't have cards i cant see it being a legal requirement for them to give you a card.

You can access the money by going into the branch.

Wonder if going in 5 minutes before they close and withdrawing £5 may swing them towards giving you a card?
Or wait 6 months and apply for one.

But the fact you just opened another account elsewhere and stopped all money going into this account made them wary.

Reading between the lines, I think it will be at least 6 months for an cashpoint card and longer for a debit card from HSBC.

I would suggest you cut your losses and open a basic or savings account elsewhere.

HSBC don't like you. You don't like HSBC. The logical solution being - move banks...
