Who do i need to inform that i have a new debit card number?

Hello

I lost my old bank card and now I have a replacement. It says to let people who you make regular payments to (such as insurance premiums) know your new debit card number.

Would this include e-on (gas and elec) and severn trent (water) ?

Also do i need to let child benefit and tax credit know? pretty sure the only info i gave them was sort code and account number though.

Thanks

  • You only have to let the companies know if they have a regular payment debit authority set up on your debit card, not if you pay them by direct debit that comes out of your account.

How would I know if the companies i pay direct debits to have that though? I wouldn't see a difference between paying elephant car insurance and e-on, yet on the letter it says (such as insurance premiums) so i'm not sure if E-on is the same?

    Thanks

If they have what? Direct debits have nothing to do with your debit card and will continue regardless. I doubt you need to tell anyone your new debit card number (except when you actually use it with someone of course!).

only yu can really know how you pay people but
-you can check you DDs (usually can be done by logging into your bank a/c
-you can check your old bank statements and see what bills you pay and whether they are DD or via debit card
-you can check the bills and they will usually say whether you have DD or what

These payment will go directly into your account. Sort code and account number will not have changed, even the debit card did.
