The windows are being installed under a council loan scheme that replaced council grants. Basically the council give the money to a loan company who lend it at a competitive interest rate that the council subsidise. Then the old person just pays the interest and the capital is paid off when they pass away. They came last February and did the assesment and Mum is having 8 new windows, 2 new doors and a patio window. There are already 4 replacement windows that were done about 20 years ago and they are ok. They are also making the electrics up to date and fitting a new radiator in the lounge ( that there is a grant for). The loan is about £7500.00 and includes 10% contingency ( in case they come accross any unforseen problems ) and a fee for the agency that does the forms etc for the council. Then all she has to pay is about £25.00 per month in interest. Bearing in mind her gas bill last winter was £166.00 per month as she is heating outside aswell as the windows are so bad.
But my eldest brother especially said it was a waste of money and it would not add value to the house so whats the point. ( This is the brother who left them with the mortgage and had about £40,000 from them already). After a lot of fighting with them they finally gave in about 4 weeks ago and we are just awaiting the forms to sign then it will be done.
I chased the chap on Friday and will call him again Monday to see where we are.
Regarding the bank accounts etc I am just going to ignore them and carry on as before. My eldest sister even wants me to ration my Mum's money and not let her use her debit card. ???
Thanks everyoneShe also bought a diary that I am supposed to write down everything I spend from her account. She started using it when she was looking after Mum last week and I looked in it when she left and just laughed. All she wrote was where she drew out money , then wrote Tesco or Lidl each day then put that £10.00 was in Mum's purse. Mum quite often puts money in her apron and I was also told to stop her doing it and I just said its her money she can do what
she likes with it.
Mum got Sky in June and does not use it much as she is not used to it yet but it is cheaper for her to have Sky tv, Broadband and phone than the Talk Talk phone package she had before. So as Mum does not use it much my sis suggested I hide the ordinary tv remote so she would have to use the Sky as that would be the only remote she had.
You could not make it up.
I honestly do not know how you are putting up with these selfish idiots! When my step-grandmother was still alive she was constantly worrying about what she was going to leave us, while we just wanted her to live a happy and comfortable life. In the end she had to go into a home but we made sure it was a nice one. I would rather have had her spend all the money on living well and happily than have the legacy we ended up with.
At this rate I wouldn't be surprised if they started trying to claim she was unable to manage her finances and that she should not be allowed to sign on her own account  As for taking her debit card off her
You deserve a medal for putting up with all this, but begining to think it is worth one of those free half hour visits with a solicitor to lay down a few ground rules. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -
went to sada this afternoon. got 2 shops.
shop 1: 6 weight watchers ready meals (£2.98 each) = £17.88
submitted 6 coupons (£2.99 each) so had to get carrot= 0.10
(after coupon deduction) cost = 0.4p
shop 2: 2 weight watchers ready meals (£2.98 each) = £5.96
submitted 2 coupons (£2.99 each) so had to get banana= 0.13
(after coupon deduction) cost = 0.11p
so 8 x £2.99 weight watchers, 1 carrot and 1 banana for 15p:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I have a bit of an issue with an APG,
I used an APG earlier and unknowingly gave the wrong receipt with it but they signed APG on it and off I went but I only realised this when I went to use another one and SA said sorry receipt does not match APG
I obviously had the two mixed up now I have 1 APG with 2.70 with receipt signed which I haven't used.
do I explain to CS about it or do I just cut my losses0 -
I did lots of yopmail addresses.
I did try that before but as with a lot of things on here, got quite confused so didn't bother! :rotfl:May: Make £5 a day £115.38 / £155
