Low rate care

Hi I have just won and an dla appeal and awarded dla low rate care but I have a new claim going thorough for dla as my condition has got worse since I first submitted the claim and it will probably change, what I wanted to ask does low rate care have any affect on other benefits? I am currently on income support I done a benefits calculator and it says I was but I phoned income support and they sai it wouldn't affect my claim?

Thanks in advance

DLA is stand alone and doesn't affect any benefits.

The money from DLA does not generally affect other benefits.
However, being in receipt of DLA/AA can cause significant premiums to kick in, as well as grants to aid in heating or the adaption of the home.

However, for most benefits, you need to get to medium care before any premium happens.

JSA is an exception - any form of DLA will entitle you to an extra 30/week, in the disability premium.
  • Hi thanks for your replies I am in receipt of income support but they said that dla would have no affect on the amount I got is that true?

The Disability Premium is payable with IS. For what reason do you claim IS? If it is due to long term incapacity you should already receive it - how much do you receive?
  • Hi I claim income support as I have 2 young kids and am a single non working parent.

In that case you should ask them to add the Disability premium to your claim. If you are receiving £71 now, you should receive an additional £30.35 per week.
