Christmas gift suitable for any age and either sex!

We have decided to stop with the giving and recieving of expensive and pointless gifts between immediate family this year (I am still buying for my kids though!). We are going to buy one gift to the value of £10 and play a secret santa style game, but you dont buy for a specific person.
The family involved range from age 10 to 80 and there are male and female. The gift should be suitable for any of them.
As you can imagine......I NEED IDEA'S!!!

    Tricky....

how many youngsters/how many senior people?

For 10+ to just about anyone that goes out & about...one of those "sigg" style water bottles? Other brands are much cheaper ;)

    Maglite type torch?

Wind up torch? Most kids seem to like winding them up...
http://www.nigelsecostore.com/acatalog/Santa_windup-Torch.html £5.99 but I'm sure cheaper elsewhere so could get something else too

    Wind up radio

    Umpteen packets of sparklers

    Decent biscuits

    One size unisex slipper socks

Gift card for TK Maxx/amazon etc (disguise in cracker?)

more eco store stuff here - all £5 to £10 & assorted age etc

You must mean "bran tub" rather than "secret santa" ... cos with a secret santa you know who you are buying for, they dont know who is getting them the gift! I vote for a torch ... I'd love a decent small torch

This is a sound advice so that the one who will receive the gift will have the option on what item should he/she will buy.

toiletries - but you'd have to go for something generic like fruit smelling bubble bath to meet the either gender and any age suitability.

    Edible items- chocs, sweets, biscuits.

    clothing - scarves/gloves in a neutral colour

snuggle blanket- don't know if you'll get that within budget-might if you find an offer.

    hot water bottle

    playing cards/dominoes.

    key-ring

I read on here once that someone recommended the Guinness Book of Records. Not sure the 80 year old would appreciate it, but I'm sure it would be amusing on the day!

Thanks for the ideas so far!

I had already come up with a gift voucher or Lottery/scratch cards, but I thought it may be a obvious and therefore a few of the family may do that.

Chocs/biscuits is another quite obvious one but I did think that at christmas the last thing that most people need is more food!

Even with a neutral scarf, it's difficult to cater for a 10year old girl and an 80year old man!

What have I agreed to?! Any more suggestions are very welcome!
